Waiheke Island

On our first full day in New Zealand, we took a ferry into the islands in the Hauraki Gulf off the coast of Auckland. We walked around Waiheke Island. The climate of Waiheke is similar to that of the Mediterranean and they grow olives for oil and grapes for wine. Our favorite part of the experience was the biennial outdoor sculpture exhibit, the highlight of which was a huge drainplug floating in the bay.
